Construction of a new Ferric Chloride production

Construction of a new Ferric Chloride production unit to produce 20,000 TPA (100 % FeCl3) during the first phase of the project by 2019, with the second phase producing 40,000 TPA by 2020.

The Ferric Chloride Plant covers an area of approximately 2,750 m2 at the Al-Kout premises and includes all the necessary equipment for process units and ancillary systems to produce 40,000 tons of FeCl3 (100%) per year.

 

The basic engineering package is supplied by M/s FEED, Germany and detailed engineering design/technology is supplied by M/s CAC, Germany.

Product Quality: Ferric chloride aqueous solution with approximately 40% FeCl3 and a maximum 0.5% of FeCl2.

Raw materials for the plant: Iron scrap, chlorine gas, hydrochloric acid, filtered air and other utilities such as steam, seawater, electricity, various instruments, etc.

 

Brief Process Description: The plant is composed of the following sections:

 

 

Scrap Dissolving System: Iron scraps dissolve in a ferric chloride solution to form ferrous chloride.
2 FeCl3 +Fe ↔ 3 FeCl2
Filtration: The ferrous chloride from the dissolver passes the screen filter and allows for the collection of larger impurities in the solution.
Chlorination: The ferrous chloride, which is produced inside the dissolvers, is converted into ferric chloride inside the chlorination unit. The chlorination reaction is written below:
