Enhancement of Caustic Soda Flakes production capacity from 100 to 150 TPD by 2018

The capacity expansion project consists mainly of the installation of an additional climbing film concentrator (evaporator) system, which will work in conjunction with the two existing concentrators in the Caustic Soda Flaking plant. Existing plant and capacity upgradation technology is supplied by M/s Bertrams, Switzerland.

 

An additional boiler with a capacity of 36 Bar for pressure steam was also installed to meet the heating requirement for new concentrator operations. The boiler was supplied by M/s Thermax, India.

In the existing system, Caustic Soda Lye (50%) is concentrated in two stages, i.e. from 50 to 61% and 61 to 99% by using two stage concentrators. The molten lye (99%) that is produced is then cooled and produces flakes in two flaker units.

With the introduction of a climbing film concentrator system, 50% Caustic Soda is concentrated to 56% in a pre-concentrator which uses vapor from the final concentrator in a vacuum of 70 mmHg. The 56% Caustic Soda then flows to the climbing film concentrator where the concentration of the caustic solution reaches up to 76%, which is made possible through the 36 Bar steam as the heating media. The 76% Caustic Soda flows by gravity to the final concentrator and produces molten caustic (99%) which is cooled to make flakes in two existing flaker units.
